Dog Training Around the Sunset District
The Sunset runs from Golden Gate Park down to Stern Grove and Lake Merced, with Ocean Beach on one side and a lot of fog in between. Training happens where your dog lives: Irving, Judah, Noriega, and Taraval Streets and the paths at Sunset Dunes.
Ocean Beach Leash Rules
From Stairwell 21 south to Sloat Boulevard, dogs must be on a 6-foot leash from July 1 to May 15 to protect snowy plovers.
Sunset Dunes
The former Upper Great Highway is now a park. Dogs must stay on leash at all times and off the dunes.
Stern Grove and Pine Lake
Both have dog play areas, and the Pine Lake trail connects to Stern Grove's trails.
Fort Funston
Just south, it's a popular off-leash spot where dogs need to stay under voice and sight control.
