Hi, Iām Kim Capria
I started working with dogs back in 2012 when I adopted a dog from a rescue name Timmy. Unfortunately, Timmy revealed himself to be human aggressive and caused me to seek out a dog trainer. When I met someone who was able to help me, I absolutely loved everything I learned about training. From there, I embarked on a path that led me all the way to San Francisco, where I have helped over 300 dogs learn to live a better life in a dense, urban environment.
My career began in Phoenix, Arizona, where I would board dogs through Rover at my home where I had plenty of space! I got to know each one of them and it was a great compliment to my life-style as a full time musician back then. From there, my interest in dog behavior grew and I was offered an opportunity to come spend a summer in San Ramon with a few dog training friends that were kind enough to show me the ropes. I spent the summer of 2015 training dogs and loving it!
From then on, I continued to work with dogs in some capactiy all the way up until the pandemic. Once the pandemic hit, all the music gigs I worked so hard for dried up, leading me to reach out to a professional dog trainer to work with and learn from. I spent most of 2020 heading to a ranch and learning how to work with all different types of larger breeds. My mentor at the time specialized in personal protection dogs and I was able to really dive in and get my handling skills up to speed.
I began my own business in the fall of 2020 and started boarding and training dogs in my home in downtown Phoenix. Shortly after, the opportunity arose to move to San Francisco, and I took it! I had the amazing opportunity to immediately start working with Refined K9 dog training, whom I still contract with since 2021. Between RK9 and GCC I have had the amazing gift of working with over 300 dogs in San Francisco.
In the last 4 years of training in San Francisco, I have developed a unique skillset of helping dogs in a dense, urban environment. The majority of my cases have been behavior modification, working with dogs that struggle with reactivity, resource guarding, anxiety, over-arousal, and overall issues listening and learning in a place with so much distraction.
I regularly attend seminars and work-shops to continue my education as a dog trainer. I believe that we are always learning, especially in this field. My approach is catered to what the dogs needs. Every dog deserves a fair chance and I believe that a modern day dog training approach with a focus on building relationship and handling skills are key for the success of each dog and owner.
I am passionate, considerate, honest, fair, and experienced. I will do what the DOG needs. My commitment is to the dog, always.
When I am not training dogs you can find me writing songs and playing music around the city, studying stenography, or taking photos for fun! I believe that my creative approach to life has allowed me to connect with dogs and people in a way that makes sense. I have the skills to solve the unique problems that pop up in San Francisco, and I absolutely love what I do!
