Dog Training Around the Richmond District
The Richmond sits between Golden Gate Park, the Presidio, and Ocean Beach, so dogs here get some of the best open space in the city, and some of the most distractions. Training happens where your dog lives: Clement Street sidewalks, Geary Boulevard crossings, and the trails at Lands End.
Golden Gate Park Dog Training Area
Near Fulton and 36th Avenue. It's called the city's largest fenced dog park, with separate areas for big and small dogs.
Mountain Lake Park
An official off-leash dog play area tucked off the nature trails. It has closed before because of coyote activity nearby, so a solid recall matters here.
Ocean Beach, North End
North of Stairwell 21, near the Beach Chalet, Ocean Beach is off-leash year-round. Wind, waves, and other dogs make it a real recall test.
Lands End
Dog-friendly trails with ocean views, but dogs need to be on a leash no longer than 6 feet in most areas.
